Does anyone know if drinking alcohol after clearing the virus can cause it to become active again?

New studies show people that were clear after six months of treatment had a 98 percent chance of never reoccuring. They think the 2 percent may have been reinfected. However, why start drinking. I have been sober for 7 years and I cant recall anything good in my life that came from drinking. Plus, what if you have liver issues still. Why take a chance. So the answer is "no", I dont know.

Thank you Smile. I was sober 12 years before finding out I was infected. I'm sure being sober that long saved my liver. My biopsy showed Stage 1 fibrosis.

Lately I've been drinking wine on the weekend. I probably shouldn't though.

I completed my treatment successfully as of Jan.2008. I had a terrible time with the pegatron treatment but battled through it with some pain meds and a bit of weed. I quit drinking before the treatment and did not start again until after my six month test results. I do drink a glass or two of wine on certain weekends but never have been looped since I quit for that time. I enjoy good wine but do not seem to have much desire to drink like I used to for whatever reason. I am cured of Hep C and am grateful but also want to enjoy my life and a glass of wine once and a while.
One thing I have found however is that I still have a great amount of bone, joint and muscle pain since coming off the treatment and wonder if anyone else has had this problem at all??

We both came off around the same time. I stopped in Feb or March of 2008. I immediately started taking glucosamine for the joint issues and started low impact exercise like swimming. I just injured myself everytime I tried lifting weights until around 8 months post-treatment. My joint pain is almost completely gone now and I attribute that to the exercise. I think joint pain is the most common complaint I see on the board here. Some people dont recover from it so I would definitely get on the glucosamine.

Thanks Smile. I do get lots of hiking in. I walk our dog at least an hour a day and most of that is hilly trails so my cardio is good. Have you ever learned what might cause the joint pain after the meds are done?
I don't know if it is a result of the meds but I still seem to have some temper issues that developed during my treatment. Has anyone experienced that?

Hi Lawrence,
Congratulations on clearing treatment and enjoying a glass of wine once in a while. There is life after TX :o)
Unfortunately I am an alcoholic, so one bottle of wine on the weekend soon turned into two or three, and I began noticing random bruising on my legs.
After quitting alcohol for about a month I had blood work done, including a viral load test. Everything came back fine, except cholesterol. My viral load is still UNDETECTABLE almost three years post TX.
I take a prescription med called Lyrica for pain. It also helps my mood. You might want to check it out.

Hi LA,

Thanks for the congrats and thoughts. I am on some pain meds for arthritis and would just as soon stay with that but I do appreciate the Lyrica suggestion.
I just wondered if anyone else has had pain after the treatment was over?
Like you said as well, I sometimes think my mood has been more hostile since coming off Pegatron. Anyone else have this feeling?

Treatment failed in my case living with Side efforts
I have Hepatitis C and now told I also have fibromyalgis! I went into study treatment drop out at 7 months had bad side efforts. Not saying people should not go into treatment, but I think some people's bodys can not handier it. First my body rash, my skin burn and peeler left my body discolor where the rash was, lost my hair the last of it before I drop out could not walk, my private Dr. told me if I keep it up I was going to die. Like I said this happen to me and it was RESEARCH. NOW the part I NEED HELP WITH is SIDE Efforts, I live in pain and trying to work, and my memory is bad worst than before I went in to treatment, I was told it's short term  memory may get better or may NOT!!!!! Well its not better I forget things so easy It's hard to work like this sometimes live. I can be talking to someone and I can get confuse about what I was talking about become upset at myself. Yes I fight depresses also.
If anyone has in information on these problems or have gone into treatment and have side efforts PLEASE SHARE with me, I could really use some feed back. e-mail coolkay55@gmail.com

I have been off the treatment for one and a half years now (finished in Dec. 08) and I still feel like I have side effects. I walk allot with the dog and ski and do lots of house work and gardening. I have very stiff and soar muscles all the time and am on pain meds for that. My moods are still pretty cranky some times but seem to be getting better. I just have to make an effort to not get too grouchy with others. I am scheduled for surgery on my foot for arthritis in a few weeks and will be on even more pain meds then. I was slowly weening down on those and now back up we go...booo!
Brain clouds are pretty much gone now but that took a year at least. The depression kind of taught me to just try to be more patient and forgiving or it would only get worse.
No interest in alcohol much any longer and just happy to be healthier than I was before I suppose.
I think we can only do what we can do and can't get too depressed with our deminished memory, but hey, that happens anyhow I think??
Try to stay positive and make the most of what we have, taking care on my wife and dog has saved me more than anything, great therapy.
