Hi everyone:

Just took first injection of Eprex, the Canadian version of Procrit, as my anemia had reached dangerous levels. Can anyone tell me what I'm in for with this and if it actually works in making you feel better? Also, how long before you notice a difference? Side effects listed are pretty similar to what I'm already experiencing. Just hope it doesn't make me feel worse.

Thanks

I will be doing my forth shot of Procrit this Thursday. I havn't experienced any unpleasant sides. I do seem to have more energy and that took about a week. Last week after doing my shot before bed I found myself wide awake and restless at 3:00 in the morning. I'm not sure it was the Procrit because the Peg/riba has done that to me also. But as a precaution I am going to take my Procrit shots in the mornings. I did my Pegasys' once in the morning. I will never ever never do that again. That's just me. I'm sure others can be more helpful. I'm still learning about the stuff myself.

I took Procrit the last four months of treatment. Didn't have any side effects, and I felt better right away. I've heard it takes around two weeks for the Hmg to increase, but my doctor said the Procrit also supplies hormones that make you feel better. My Hmg hovered somewhere around 10.0, only had to take one shot every two weeks.

Anything to help kick the dragon's butt. :o)

I'm at 21 weeks into my 24 week treatment for Type 2.  I went very anemic by week 9 and went on ProCrit, one vial per week.  Took about a month to begin to feel positive effects.  Much more energy now, almost feel normal.

ProCrit is worth it! - big quality of life improvement.

Good Luck,

PK

I started on Procrit yesterday (8/16).  40,000 IU or 1ml.  I would have to say that freakin' syringe looked like a 16 penny nail.  I did the shot last night and as soon as I did it I threw up .  But then after that I was fine.

I'm waiting for the payoff, almost like waiting for the rush...  Tee Hee!  :)

11 more shots to go.  Anyone heard for Jayhawk lately?  Hope she is doing well.

Hi Terri!

I'm still here and kicking!  Sorry to hear you're feeling low the last few days and hope the Procrit boosts your spirit.  I've been experiencing more mental fog and tempted to start taking Provigil which is another energy booster my hepatologist prescribed (we're both at the maxiumum wellabutrin!).  But once I start taking it, will need to continue to finish.  So do I add a med......or struggle to keep up?

Glad Procrit is helping so many people with anemia.  Hang in there everyone!

Hugs Terri!

Hi Terry,

Hope you are feeling better by now.  That needle sounds really scary!  I am so afraid of shots, (always have been since a childhood trauma with getting a shot at the doctors office) I have a nurse come to my home every Friday and give me my shot!  I just cannot do it!!!!  Before the nurse I had such a radical anxiety attack on shot night I almost went in to ER cos' I didn't know what was wrong.  Thought I was reacting to the injection going directly into my bloodstream because blood came out after the needle was pulled out.

I hope this works for you and you get your strength back up.  I think the worst part of tx is the emotional see saw and the fatigue.  Good luck girl. I will be cheering you on!  Let us know how you do with yet ANOTHER drug in your system!

With love and understanding,   Diane

Your right skaryskitz. I thought that needle was going to go right through me. I've lost 25 lbs since I started this so that wouldn't require much.

Howdy Terri,

The college trip went fine - I had to walk 3 or 4 miles everyday and lost weight!  Ate lots of fruit and salad from the cafeteria and didn't drink.

Yes, we have 11 more shots to go.  I can't wait for next Friday.  Somehow 10 shots left doesn't seem like much.  I'm going to make a big poster for the countdown!

Glad to hear you are doing well!  I've become anemic too but not at dangerous levels.  I just keep plugging along!  I did add provigil to boost my energy/mental capabilities.  Those numbers were starting to s l o w down!

Hugs Terri!

Hi Laura,
I took Procrit during treatment. It worked fine to bring my RBC count up, and give me energy. It's a little expensive though.

You should be hopeful. Lot's of people are clearing the virus.

Those pills that you are referring to are probably Ribavirin and they are causing your anemia. They had to decrease my dosage before my count came back up. However, if you decrease your Riba, you decrease your chances to clear. You can decrease your dose until you get on the Procrit. How many pills do you take a day?
